Piano Chords for Beginners: Accompany Songs with C, F, and G
Three chords—C, F, and G—let you experience accompaniment in many songs. Start without pedal, balance the three notes, and then add a left-hand root.
Temel özellikler ve seçenekler
- C is C-E-G, F is F-A-C, and G is G-B-D
- Play three right-hand notes together and evenly
- The left hand can play only the named root

Test the three chord tones separately
Build C–E–G, F–A–C, and G–B–D with the right hand. Fingers 1, 3, and 5 are one starting option in root position, but choose comfortable fingering for your hand and musical context. Touch all three keys before lowering them together. If one note is late or quiet, play that note alone three times. Continue after each chord sounds together three times without an extra key.
Connect C–F–G–C for four beats
At 50–60 BPM, count the chord name and four beats aloud. Hold the sound through beat four, look toward the next shape, and arrive on the following downbeat. If the same change stops each loop, remove the pulse and make that two-chord move three times. Add the left hand after three complete loops land on beat one.
Add one left-hand root on beat one
Play a single C, F, or G with the left hand at the first beat of each bar and hold it beneath the right-hand chord. If the hands miss each other, leave the keyboard and tap both hands together on beat one three times. After three coordinated loops, either add left-hand quarter notes or learn one nearby right-hand inversion—not both at once, so you can identify what changes the result.
Pio: Why is my little-finger note so quiet?
Dock-sensei: Do not force it down. Keep a rounded hand, touch all three keys first, and lower the fingers together.
Build a three-chord accompaniment
- Check every chord tone, then play C, F, and G together three times each
- Play three C–F–G–C loops at 50–60 BPM with four beats per chord
- Add one left-hand root on beat one and record whether three loops stay coordinated

Should I use the sustain pedal immediately?
First make chord lengths and changes clear without it. Once each move is stable, refresh the pedal at harmony changes as a starting point, then adjust its length to the score and the sound you hear.
Must I learn inversions now?
No. Root positions are enough at first. Add nearby inversions when you are ready to make movement smaller.
When should I move to another accompaniment pattern?
Complete three right-hand C–F–G–C loops and then three with one left-hand root per bar without losing the pulse. Next, change either the left-hand rhythm or one right-hand inversion, not both at once.
One chord tone is late or quiet. How do I fix it?
Play only that key three times with the same finger. Then touch all three keys before lowering them slowly together. Do not stretch the hand into pain to force a particular fingering.
